Community Outreach

We have many ways that we love our neighbors. Here are a few opportunities for serving the community that CPC partners with.

Springfield Rescue Mission Monthly Dinner

CPC supports the Springfield Rescue Mission by preparing meals for the men in the New Life Rehabilitation program. Teams of members dedicate their time preparing and serving a meal on the first Tuesday of each month.  Ruby Gasque and Eliz Tongue serve as coordinators. They have participated in the SRM volunteer orientation and led their groups with meal planning and coordinating with me each month. Each month we serve men in the rehabilitation program and staff. We are always seeking new volunteers to join us in seeing each month.

Clothing Shed

Ever wonder about the Clothing Shed in our parking lot? CPC has teamed up with St. Pauly Textile Inc., to collect used clothing.  The company works with non-profit organizations, like CPC, to set up used clothing drop-off sheds designed to give community members a clean, attractive, and well-monitored place to donate gently used textile items, which are then distributed both here in the U.S. and worldwide to people who need them. All useable items are given free to those that need them. CPC receives funding for clothing collected and designates those monies to our Deacons Fund.

The Deacon Fund is used to help people in need inside and outside of our church community.

Accepted items include clothing, shoes, sneakers, belts, purses, blankets, sheets, drapes, linens, pillowcases, and stuffed animals. Donors are asked to donate items in a plastic bag to protect against dirt and the elements. There is a small box on the shed that contains receipts to help donors take a tax deduction.

Loaves & Fishes Donation Delivery

Volunteer two days a month to pick up day-old bread and bakery items from Big Y (Cooley Street) and deliver them to Loaves and Fishes Pantry at South Congregational Church in Springfield. Contact Cheri Turnbull (413-262-1919 or cannenturnbull@comcast.net) for more information and to volunteer.
